We have been counting collections. This is a great activity because counting provides the foundation for understanding numbers and for computation skills
(addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
When they do this activity the children practise the names of numbers, the sequence of numbers, one-to-one correspondence and develop accurate counting strategies.
Writing numbers can be tricky. Learning to get the shape right requires lots of practise. So we make it fun and sensory. One of the favourite ways to practise shaping the numerals is in shaving foam.
More counting through a balancing stones game. How tall is your tower?
And finally, pattern! It's been popping up in lots of different aspects of the children's play.
