Book week - activities and visitors

There have been many exciting events and class activities to celebrate book week. On Tuesday the children met and listened to a talk from Paul Geraghty who is an author and illustrator. He brought his books alive with silly voices and wacky names. The children were impressed by his drawing skills and we tried some of his technique back in class.

Independent painting.
Making porridge like Daddy Bear. There was lots of discussion, measuring, counting spoonfuls and careful transferring of oats to avoid spilling.

On Tuesday one of our name stones got lost! Two detectives came to carry out an investigation.
After a thorough search the detectives could not find the name stone. We made another one! To every problem there's a solution.
A 'station' for acting out the story of the Three Little Pigs...
 ...or Goldilocks!
 Preparing fruit time.

Making finger puppets to retell the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
This wolf was having quite and adventure but lucking the K2s are keeping him under control.
We were inspired by Paul Geraghty's drawing technique. He used a smudging technique to add colour to his pictures. Back in class we tried it out for ourselves. We discovered that our felt tip pens don't smudge. Then we tried chalk and oil pastel and these both smudged and blended well.

Building a bridge for the billy goats to cross.

Voting for the most popular fairy tale.

Alec Williams, who is a professional storyteller captured the children’s imagination.
